Hey there!  Hope everyone had a good weekend!  We had a great weekend all around, celebrating my oldest sons 19th birthday and enjoying a garage sale extravaganza in our little town.  We got some great things, one of which was this old sideboard.
I have always wanted a sideboard for our dining room, so, needless to say, I was thrilled, hubby was thrilled!  I actually liked it in this aged condition but decided to give it a fresh coat of white paint, strip the white paint off the drawer pulls and then spray paint them oil rubbed bronze.  And guess how much it cost.........5 bucks!!!!!!  Heres what it looks like in its new home.

This piece, along with the old soda crate hubby found and the linen table runner I made from my tablecloth fiasco, inspired a little mini dining room redo.  So, heres a look at the table runner I sewed.
I used grey linen that I ordered from here.  I originally bought three yards because I had planned to sew a tablecloth instead, but, after I was finished and put it on the table, I didnt like it at all.  I think it was the thought of covering up such a special table, so I cut it down to make this table runner.

After being inspired by the look of these tablecloths, I decided to make a patch from drop cloth and then stencil my favorite number on it with grey craft paint.  Then I sewed it onto the runner and fringed the edges.

To go on top of the runner, I filled the aged soda crate with our pretty white napkins, a variety of vintage mismatched salt and pepper shakers, my mini bread boards - one for each of us, and cute little bowls to sit on top of the bread boards for dipping oil, butter, or whatever we decide to eat with our bread.
And because the vintage ladder was driving us crazy in the master bath (we kept tripping over it cause its a small room), I decided to bring it out to the dining room and hang those gorgeous coffee sacks hubby got me from it.  And since it is no longer in the bathroom, we can enjoy looking at the ladder more often.
Here is a look at the entire room with all its little changes.
I cant wait to have our family dinners in there now!  I am just itchin to get the fall decorations and candles out!  I had so much fun this weekend with hubby, my kiddos and all our fun garage sale finds. We are nearing the end of summer vacation and I dread that.  I enjoy having my kids home with me so much.

I happen to love decorating based on the season and our favorite seasons around here are, without a doubt, spring and summer. So, it was definitely time to give the front and side porches a makeover because of all the outdoor living we enjoy in the summer months. And after uncooperative weather, jumping off the porch, missing and ending up on crutches, its finally finished! Lets take a look.....



Ahhhh, color! I love it when the earth starts waking up again.



Here is our favorite corner of the porch. There is nothing like relaxing on the porch swing with the people I love. I ordered all the fabrics for the pillows here and made them myself. Notice my fun thift store table here in front of the porch swing. Love it!

I scraped the old paint off the porch and repainted with an oil based porch paint called Brownstone, purchased at Lowes. It looked like a can of melted chocolate and was very distracting, yum! I love the glossy shine it gives the porch. I also thought it would contrast nicely with the lighter colors of the house and shutters, which I also repainted a creamy white.


I made the "beach" sign with weathered wood my hubby found in an old barn and light aqua paint I already had. The old oars were also found by hubby in the same barn and the hanging mason jar candle holders were purchased at Pottery Barn last summer. I love the beachy, comfy feel it all gives the front porch.


Moving on to other side of the porch....After seeing these numbered pillows in a Pottery Barn catalog, I decided to make them myself by printing the numbers off the computer, creating a stencil with freezer paper and painting the numbers on the fabric. Fun and free! I adore these pillows! You just cant have too many of them when cuddling up with your hubby or kiddos on a relaxing spring or summer evening.

Next up, the side porch.....looking at this porch makes me so happy!





The floor was the same boring color as the front porch so I scraped, sanded and removed most of the paint. I wanted to do something fun here so I decided on stripes. What is more fun than that?! First, I painted the entire porch with plain white porch paint purchased at Lowes. Then, after it completely dried, marked off three planks at a time with painters tape and painted each alternating group of planks with Benjamin Moore Manchester Tan that I already had. To protect it, I put several coats of non-yellowing floor polyurethane. We love it! Something fun and unexpected for a porch!



Ive always wanted porch curtains, to add a touch of romance and breeziness to a porch, so, I finally decided to go for it and make a pair. I purchased my usual inexpensive fabric, painters canvas drop cloth at Lowes, and sewed a couple of panels, inserted jute rope through the rod pocket and hung on the inside of the porch and tied back with more jute rope. Just a little something special for the corner of the porch. The glider was another found object by my hubby that looked like this when he brought it home


And after some heavy duty sanding with steel wool and a few coats of this...

...it was as good as new, maybe even better. :)

Working on both of these porches has been a lot of fun and the best part was that I hardly spent any money doing it! I think they both turned out lovely and all the hard work has made spending time on the porch with my family much more cozy and comfortable. Im currently in the middle of a front porch remodel and since our front porch is very large with a porch swing, I wanted to have a square coffee table to place in front of the swing to hold our glasses of fresh squeezed lemonade, a picnic lunch or to kick up our feet and enjoy the summer breeze.

So, the best place I thought to look was my local thrift store. And sure enough, I found the perfect square coffee table for $25. Although I didnt care for the style, it was solid wood and had great bones, so I knew I could change it to make it more to my liking. Here are a couple of before shots:

I didnt care for the mission style design under the top so I took out my trusty hammer and proceeded to bang the poor table to death until I had removed the pieces I didnt want. After every last piece was removed, I spackled up some holes and made a few minor repairs (got a little crazy with the hammer). I then gave it two coats of primer and two coats of bright summer white paint. I wanted the table to have a beachy appearance to it so I grabbed some jute rope that I already had and wrapped each leg at the top and secured with hot glue. Then I took some sandpaper and distressed the edges to give it a little charm. I think it turned out great and for only $25! Cant beat that! The only problem now is that I like it so much, I want to put it in my house instead of on the front porch!

Hopefully the weather will cooperate with me this week and I will be able to finish my front porch makeover and post pics soon. Here are a couple pics of the finished table.

I love Easter.  Its my favorite holiday and I always start planning for it early.  I have so many cherished Easter memories with my hubby and kids.  Hard to believe how time flies.  This year I wanted to create something fun and special to celebrate Easter and I am thrilled to be able to share it with you.  Yes, I know it isnt even Valentines Day yet but Easter is in March this year, so it will be here before you know it.  :)


I created these egg shaped mini bread board sets just for Easter and I am so proud of them.  They are made from a special type of walnut that my hubby gets that I just love because of the beautiful shade of color through it......kinda like Easter eggs.  :)



For our table, I always like to use white dishes because thats my favorite but I also wanted to add a splash of Easter color so I picked up these lovely blue pasta bowls at Crate and Barrel.  They were a splurge for me but I couldnt resist and we eat a lot of pasta so hey, why not, right?


I also wanted something to put Easter treats in for my kids and thought that these burlap sacks were just the cutest thing ever.  I picked them up on Etsy here.



For some reason, Im drawn to anything egg shaped, especially involving the kitchen, so making these boards was seriously so much fun.  They will be available in my Etsy shop for just the Easter holiday.  And they will only be available in this walnut. 



My hubby found this old table/desk and I absolutely love it.  When he found it, the drawer was full of all kinds of vintage brochures and letters, which were lots of fun to look at.  I had so much fun using it for this photo shoot.  If it was bigger and had enough space for 6 people, I would totally use it for our dining table.
